Dear Lions of District B,

Happy May Day to you all!

In April, clubs and the district once again selected their officers for the upcoming term. The district convention was held on Saturday, April 26 at Martinlaakso School in Espoo, where the officers for the next term’s district council were chosen. You can find the convention materials at the following link:

District Events

The convention’s opening ceremony included the traditional remembrance of departed Lions, marked by extinguishing their Lions candles. The opening also honored Peppi Vänskä, winner of both the district and national Peace Poster Contest, with a scholarship.
PDG Ilkka Siissalo received a personal recognition from LCI leadership for his preparation work for the Mission 1.5 campaign, and PDG Jukka Uusitalo was acknowledged for his successful work as LCIF Coordinator.

The district celebration was also held on April 26 at Täffä, the traditional student house of Aalto University’s Swedish-speaking student union. We had the opportunity to explore the building and, more importantly, spend an enjoyable evening with student union members in classic “teekkari” (engineering student) style. The evening included a performance by the student band Humpsvakarna, student singing traditions, and relaxed socializing.

“Invite to Lionism” Campaign

Since the beginning of this term, 37 new members have joined clubs in our district. I understand that more new members are expected before the end of the season – so keep inviting! Unfortunately, 42 members have left the district during this period, so we’ve had a net decrease of 5 members. I hope everyone will continue to support the invitation campaign so we can maintain – and ideally grow – our membership.

We are also continuing the development of several new club concepts:

  • Sea Lions Club
  • Swedish-speaking club of the Capital Region
  • South Asian Club
  • Equestrian Enthusiasts Club

These concepts are currently based in the Capital Region. If you have an idea for a new club, please let us know, and we will provide support for its development.

Training Events

On May 14, from 17:30 to 20:00, we will host a Communications Workshop for district B communications officers via Google Meet. These workshops are for joint club marketing efforts. In each session, we work on items brought up by participants – such as promoting events or creating related materials. It’s easier and more enjoyable to come up with and complete tasks together. You’re warmly welcome!

On June 9, from 16:30 to 19:30, the “Involved in Life” Innovation Workshop will take place at the Kamppi Service Center, Salomonkatu 21 B, 00100 Helsinki.

Join us in this creative and practical session as we combine our strengths to discover new ways to support elderly people in pursuing hobbies and stepping outside their homes.
