Dear Lions of District B,
Lionsism in Finland will celebrate its 75th anniversary on August 14, 2025! The first Finnish Lions club, LC Helsinki–Helsingfors, was founded on August 14, 1950. In this anniversary year, we will once again mark the occasion with an event at Narinkkatori in Helsinki on August 16, 2025. I hope many Lions will attend.
Now is also the last moment to enter your clubs’ officers for next term into the Portal.
District Events
Our district’s clubs have been industrious throughout the service year. The figures below reflect the activities reported in the Portal. The district has served 75 719 people, devoted over 11 000 hours to service, and raised more than €390 000. And this covers only those clubs that have recorded their fine work in the Portal. Of the district’s 41 clubs, 15 have yet to report any activities this term. I believe and hope that, in the spirit of Lionism, many great things have nonetheless been accomplished—and it would be wonderful to share them with fellow Lions.

Districts B and N participated jointly in the Maailma kylässä (World Village) Festival. We showcased our work extensively, featuring, among other things, a solar cooker and a wood-burning stove. Many interested visitors stopped by our booth, and dozens left their contact details so that we can follow up after the festival.

Training sessions for next term will begin as early as August. Be sure to check the schedules well in advance!
Invitation to Become a Lion – Campaign
Since the beginning of this term, district clubs have invited 48 new members. We expect more before the end of the term, as I have already received requests for new-member kits. Please continue inviting—there is always someone interested in joining!
Unfortunately, 64 members have also left the district during the term, so our net membership has decreased by eighteen. I urge everyone to embrace the invitation campaign so that we can maintain—and preferably grow—our membership next term.
We are also developing several new club concepts: Sea Lions, a Swedish-speaking club in the capital region, a South Asian club, and a family club. These concepts are currently focused on the capital area. If you think of any new club possibilities, please let us know, and we will arrange support for the development initiative.
Training Events
On the incoming term’s President’s Cruise, Saturday, September 20, 2025, we will share information and stories about clubs’ best activities and how they succeeded in carrying them out. The cruise will spark fresh ideas and give you the opportunity to participate in joint service projects.

With best regards as summer approaches,
Heikki Viika
